and once again I've allowed the caffeine:blood ratio in me to creep too high...another sleepless night...

With reference to my previous post, I don't think kids are that untainted after all. Was chatting with my cousin's wife (cousin-in-law? cousin? cousin's other half? ok we'll just settle by calling her my cousin's wife). She was baby-sitting this 1 and half yr old girl. The girl had watched Shrek before and there was this time when she saw a...erm...large man on the street. And guess what? She pointed to him and said innocently: Shrek!

*sweat drop*

Imagine walking down the street happily and then suddenly this really cute kid comes up to you, smiles and points at you and utter: Shrek! or Mrs Shrek!

Oh and if you're maybe somewhere in your twenties (and not wanting to admit that you're getting old), and this really cute kid utters: Uncle Shrek or Auntie Shrek!

*two sweat drops*

Started my ophthalmology block today. Had a session where we had to look into each other's eyes using the ophthalmoscope to visualise the retina at the back of the eye. But before we did that, we all had special eyedrops put into our eyes. They're basically mydriatic eyedrops which make your pupils dilate so that it's easier to do the examination. So all of us ended up having eyes that looked really tak seimbang and you look like....Shrek.
Oh well maybe not that bad, but it really felt odd to have one eye being normal, and the other eye's pupil so dilated. And you can really feel your vision going blur coz we immediately had a tutorial after putting in the eyedrops and I remember scribbling on my notes and realising that all my words were going blur and I couldn't focus at all.
And to make things worse, after the tutorial, we finally had to use the ophthalmoscope to look into each other's eyes (coz by this time, the eyedrop would have taken effect) and the lights were switched off in the room. And me, being easily the most myopic person in that room, had to take off my glasses, navigate my way to WoeiLin (and all these time feeling dizzy from the one dilated pupil) and try my best to find his optic disc. And it really didn't help when the whole time that idiot of a WoeiLin was happily singing that stupid Richard Marc love song: 'Look into my eyes...and you will see....'
Oh and did I mention? The eyedrops last for 4-6 hours. So couldn't really study after that coz everything just went out of focus. And even after the effect wore off, our eyes felt quite tired and dry. But was quite an experience. So this is how it feels when someone has CIII palsy and has his pupil dilated. Mmm...not a nice feeling.

Well, looking at how my exams are not far away, and I'm still spending time here blogging, I should punctuate my entries with some random medical facts. And since most of the UK-IMU ppl are in the same boat as me, I'm sure this will do us all some good:
- 1 in 5 babies in Scotland are aborted.
- At least one third of Brit women would have had an induced abortion by the time they're 45.
- the combination of amiloride and ACEI will cause severe hyperkalaemia
- Brewer's yeast can be used in conjunction with metronidazole for the treatment of C.diff recurrence
- Person with right CIV palsy will tilt his head towards the left in an attempt to correct the vertical and torsional dyplopia. So the next time someone looks at you obliquely, it might not be because he's doubting what you're saying, but because he really does have a CIV problem.

Mmmm...ok should be studying. To all those around UK who are sitting for their exams, all the best! God sustains.
